Shoot The Glock

So you get up, shower, say your prayers, walk the dog and buy a coffee from the local pick 'n steal, then you visit the sick; congratulations, you're on task, but what next?  Get out in the field and shoot, obviously.

I chose a Glock 21 because I like it, you might favor another weapon, like a .357 Magnum and that's fine. There's no rule.

Targets were simple. A steel turkey at around 50 yards, steel plates at 25 and a Gatorade bottle wherever I felt like putting it. Fine, but did I still know how to shoot? Good question.

In the end, yes, but it took about half a box of cheap Federal .45 ACP to get back in the swing of things. BOOM. Tink. Down goes the turkey and BOOM, take that, Gatorade bottle as you fly through the air. The steel plates met their match too, once I'd warmed up. Boom, tink, swing.

Satisfying and, for me at least, exciting. There's something about the explosive power of a handgun that gets the adrenaline up, big fun. Still, if you plan on hitting your target you'd better practice. I reminded myself of that today.

Of course all this is banned in England, but not to worry, Brits. Nanny State will protect you.

  1. It's good that you're back in Texas and able to exercise your legal rats. (rights - in Texas) I can only imagine the horror of withdrawal that you went through during your recent trip to 'Old Blighty'.

  3. Welcome back, and yes, trigger time IS a perishable skill...

  4. We are one and the same and yet we are so not one and the same. You can’t really compare a small island of 63 million to a massive country of 315 million with no water between you and Mexico. World of difference. And yes, our nanny state is HIGHLY annoying unless of course you’re a teetotal, non smoking, totally vegan well behaved 30 mile an hour electric car driver with a degree in fine arts. But…how many of those did you see here? As I’ve said before, put guns in the hands of some of the people in Blighty and there’d be homicidal chaos.
However, shooting is fun and I love it and I’m jealous of your ability to drive out to the fields and shoot stuff like metal turkeys. Still, you don’t have the French House, Cafe Italia and Millwall fans. #RuleBritannia.

  5. LL,it felt weird leaving my rats behind, so it's a good thing I didn't have any illegal knives with me. Even better, of course, that no one ran afoul of Nanny during the exeat.

  6. Thanks, Brig! Good to be back, though I have a love for England.

  7. I reminded myself of that yesterday, Old NFO. The problem, of course, is cash. It doesn't take me long to get out to congenial places to shoot, so time's not much of an issue, but money is. Bullets don't come cheap, even the cheap ones. Maybe DJT will change that, please.

Then again, I could invest in a .22 pistol and shoot without breaking the pocket book, but still, train with what you use... Hmmm. Now I've talked myself into buying another gun.

  8. Jules, I LOVE the French House, Bar Italia, and all of that. There's nothing like it in Texas, maybe in all of America. Mind you, it might be unique to London.

I think it's important to get a setup somewhere in Bloomsbury to leverage these things to best benefit. I know this from prior experience.

    Must. Win. Lottery.
