They say that at the Mass, or the Eucharist, please don't say "Yewkrist," time and eternity intersect as the sacrificial act of Calvary breaks through into the present moment, uniting us with the redemptive love of Christ. His Sacrifice becomes our sacrifice, however imperfectly, and finding atonement in Him we glimpse, fleetingly for sure, the peace which passes all understanding.
Just Some Goon With his Hand up a Puppet |
Of course that doesn't happen at a Clown Mass, I thought to myself bitterly, casting off in search of Behemoth Bluegill. And there's a whole lot of something that passes all understandng when the liturgical dancers kick off, and some priestess goons around pretending to be something she doesn't even believe in anyway.
Nice Little Fryer! |
Then the reverie was broken by a fish plowing into my hook and the fun was on. A nearby kid asked his dad why I was catching fish, "Well, he's got worms!" It's true, I did, and after reeling in Leviathan, I gave them a couple and a hook. "Thank you, sir, you're a gentleman and a scholar," said the Father; he was keen for his boy to get a fish, and so was I. He did, too, with a little patience.
You know, I think there's something pretty good about a Father and his son, or sons, out on the water fishing.
As the sun set, I headed for the Compound, tranquil. And that was that.
LSP
No word of thanks for Blue Protector keeping the compound free of Muslims in your absence?
ReplyDeleteA big fish is the cure for all idle introspection. FISH ON, brings you back to the moment.
B-Dog, as he's taken to calling himself, did a pretty good job keeping the compound safe. Of course I locked up all internet/communications devices... just in case.
ReplyDeleteAnd for sure, a fish on the hook's a great cure. So is shooting, and riding -- must do more of that.
Maybe it's just me, but that photo above of a bluegill is not what I nor anyone else would call a 'big fish.' Now, there are some big, mambo blue gill out there somewhere, I know this for a fact; in the fishing hall of fame in Heyward, WI, there is a mounted bluegill that was 4 pounds, and was about 13 inches long. It looked like a manhole cover with fins.
ReplyDeleteNow THAT was a big fish. Relatively speaking.
I know, it wasn't really a Leviathan. Still, not a bad fish; I'll fry it up this evening with some of its cousins. It being Friday. Now, I happen to know there are BIG catfish at that spot, but I've yet to catch them...
DeleteA boy fishing with his father. Nice!
ReplyDeleteIt really is. Th world needs more of that.
Delete"B-Dog" LMAO!
ReplyDeleteDon't listen to Freddo, Parson. A bluegill over a pound is a thing to rejoice about. Maybe earns no bragging rights with the Bass Pros, but among us who filet our own, them's good for some tranquility.
I'm looking forward to the fry up, Grunt.
ReplyDeleteMaybe "B-Dog" is worth a post...
Grunt: don't get me wrong, a pounder blue gill is a beast. Just saying, this coming from me, whose largest fresh water fish caught was a 16" 4-pound striped bass. On 1/4 pound test, using a Spin-n-Glow.
ReplyDeleteIn a power plant cooling pond, near San Angelo TX. In 1976.
I'm telling you, buy a bit of liver in the store, put it on a decent hook with heavy line and a significant sinker and drop it in. The monster cats will get around to it.
ReplyDeleteFredd, I've yet to fish saltwater. I'm thinking that LL could sort that out, and we could go after Tuna, Grouper, Swordfish, etc.
ReplyDeleteSaying that, sea fresh tuna is pretty tasty...
I know LL, you keep telling me, and I've tried the method but only caught medium/small cats. I think I didn't know the water well enough.
ReplyDeleteBut that's changed, dramatically; so I'll set up and see what happens. With that in mind, I caught no end of catfish today, lost count, and they were all good sized. In fact, the first one was getting up there. All on a light rod, 12lb test and a weightless worm on a treble or circle hook, mostly circle. Tap, bang!
Big fun on a light rod.
I've been salmon fishing off the coast of Oregon a few times, and have caught several silver salmon (also called Coho salmon). They were lots of fun, fought like crazy and were all about 20-22 inches long, and about 8 pounds each. Most of what I caught I had smoked professionally, and had a few fillets grilled fresh, nothing better than fresh salmon.
ReplyDeleteWell, maybe fresh halibut....salt water fishing is a blast, I highly recommend you try it.
Fredd, I'm jealous. Must get on the salmon... I understand LL's setting up a sea fishing expedition on one of his boats. Join in.
