Lighten Up!

Readers of this small kebob-stand on the information superhighway, all six of you, are saying, "C'mon, LSP, lighten up! Less Great Russian Art and more God." With the proviso that Great Russian art is both uplifting and educational, let's reflect.

Why is there something rather than nothing? Good question. Because necessity undergirds contingency or, to put it another way, that self-subsistent being, ipsum esse subsistens, the "sheer act of to be itself," causes it.

God articulates this to Moses, speaking out of the unquenchable fire of the burning bush, I AM THAT I AM. He who is is the beginning and the end, the Alpha and Omega of all that is. But His nature is unknowable, existing in the absolute simplicity of pure act from all timeless eternity.

How fortunate, then, that He has revealed Himself as sacrificial love incarnate, in the person of His Son and more than that, has extended his salvific being in the Mystical Body of His Church, which draws all men towards their eternal home. And what awaits there?

Judgement, for sure, but remember, with the repentant thief, this day you will be with me in paradise.

Mind how you go,

LSP

  1. God likes weapons.

He put a seraphim with a flaming sword to guard the gates of the Garden once Adam and Eve were cast out.

Is a "flaming sword" a metaphor for a Glock 21?

Or is it more of a jedi light saber?

  2. As one of your six readers, I suggest maybe a little less God, and a little more fishin.'

(should I be watching out for incoming lightening bolts after this suggestion?)

  3. One of the means that the Adversary (i.e, Satan or Hillary, take your pick) uses in the modern day is to drum up so much noise and confusion that no one can hear God when He talks. Your Sunday sermon reminded me of the passage from 1 Kings 19:

And He said: ‘Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the LORD.’ And, behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and broke in pieces the rocks before the LORD; but the LORD was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake; but the LORD was not in the earthquake; and after the earthquake a fire; but the LORD was not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice. And it was so, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle,...

And that's what fishing and hunting are all about.

  4. The Devil walks among us every day, in different forms; we must be vigilant. Let him who hath ears, hear the Word.

  5. I think, LL, that it's a light and heat weapon, which puts it more in the light saber class. That's not to say that God scorns Glocks, He doesn't, He thinks they're pretty good because, after all, He's omniscient. He has a soft spot for Lees, too, I know this.

  6. Fredd, I think if it's good enough for the fishermen, it's good enough for me. That doesn't mean I'll necessarily invest in a BOAT.

  7. Well said and thanks, Euripides. That text was in the back of my mind, curiously.

  9. With the activities of this weekend, all I can say is be safe and God bless and protect you all.

  10. Pastor: just for the record, a boat is far from an 'investment.' A boat is a cash black hole, where gobs and gobs of money are sucked into it, and it never seems to improve. And then once you are tired of feeding it cash and try to sell it, nobody will buy it for anything even close to what you put into it.

    Not an investment.

  11. Hahahahaha! Too true, Fredd. If we had been able to find more places to fish from shore, we wouldn't have bought one. But Louisiana is too developed now. Most access to water is privately owned now. Sad.

  12. I'm probably lucky that cashflow mitigates against the boat project... but the lakes beckon...

  13. Specifically, what model of (Alien Gear?) holster is that? And how do you like it? Any pluses or minuses you'd like to pass along to us half-dozen deplorable readers?

  14. Alright there, Anonymous.

It's an AG Cloak Tuck 3.0 inside the waistband holster for the Glock 21 and I think it's a good product. Comfortable, secure, excellent fit and finish and its IWB backing can be swapped out for OWB. So I'd happily recommend it -- here's a review I did earlier:

  15. Nice review. Can you confirm that there is no leather in it? (I'd seen some write-ups that seemed to indicate it had leather components, and other data that seem to indicate it's all neoprene, nylon, and/or other synthetics.) (No philosophical issues with leather here--just concerned regarding long-term sweat issues in a hot climate.)

  16. Glad it was helpful -- it's all synthetic. I've found it wearable in 100* weather, if a bit warm...
