Everyone knows that this blog is about nuance, about finely weighed principles of cause and effect, theoria and praxis in the life of the mind as it plays out in the public square. Heck, it's like First Things but with pictures of Lena Dunham, Mantids, space aliens and Justsin Welby cruising the pawns.
So that's why we're bringing you Dom Garrigou Lagrange on the sin of intellectual pride:
So filled with their own learning, which has cost them so much, that their souls are saturated with it and no longer open to receive the superior light that would come from God in prayer.
Not bad, eh? In the future, when we win this war, every Harvard professor will have that tattooed on their forehead.
Nuance.
LSP
Your nuance is not all that subtle...
ReplyDeleteDammit. Foiled again.
ReplyDeleteFather Neuhaus called from the grave. He said he knew First Things, he edited First Things, you, sir, are no First Things. He also said the aliens were cute.
ReplyDeleteI've got a couple of those "nuances" up there, just need about another hundred parts or so to finish it. (So much for my brilliant plan of building a peashooter during my sick leave. Darn medical bills.)
ReplyDeleteBwahahah! Your nuanced commenters are killing me! Good stuff, LSP. I got First Things for years, but eventually quit it, mostly out of butthurt that they wouldn't publish my counter-critique of that blowhard, Professor Miola and his throwdown of Joseph Pearce. They just don't recognize nuanced cussing.
ReplyDeleteToo subtle for me. I'd just turn to Timothy for that forehead stamp - "always learning but never able to come to a knowledge of truth."
ReplyDeleteI applaud your continual use of nuance on this site.
ReplyDeleteThere's a considerable amount of nuance at the business end of an AR-15 or Beretta/Glock .45 ACP, right?
Haha. Love it.
ReplyDeleteWhat happened to Hippy Scorn? I was prepared to slash and burn but it vanished, in a subtle nuance.
ReplyDeleteBut Padre, what does Rusty think?
ReplyDeleteComplete the Nuance, Mattexian!
ReplyDeleteI know, Grunt. FT can get a little, ahem, Senior Common Room of the Mind... (SCRM)
ReplyDeleteNice forehead stamp, Euripides.
ReplyDeleteAll about the nuance, Theodore.
ReplyDeleteNothing like a bit of subtlety to liven up the day, Linda.
ReplyDeleteI accidentally hit delete, LL. But it's returned, full of the subtle nuance we've come to know and expect from Team LSP.
