I went downtown to register my truck. There isn't much downtown, but there is a courthouse, which burned down in the '90s (1990s). Willie Nelson helped to rebuild it.
There's also a Confederate War Memorial, and guess what, no one's tried to vandalize it. Weird, eh? Maybe that wouldn't go down too well around here.
And that's just the way it is.

That is one of the most beautiful county courthouses in Texas. I live near Osceola and used to go there. The restoration created a magnificent building.
ReplyDeleteWhat is really neat are some of the walls in the in the basement. They are cut stone full of fossils.
Beautiful courthouse! Texans are justified in taking pride in their treasures.
ReplyDeleteWe drove through Garbury on the way back from Austin (detour through hill country) and I was impressed with the old courthouse and square there as well. Those little towns all speak to Americana and the roots that run deep in the genuine national consciousness -- far from the mainstream media, the liberals on the coasts, and the progressive narrative of the joy of murdering babies and selling their body parts to the highest bidder.
ReplyDeleteThere is a simple justice and a code, backed up with the right to open carry that is reliable and speaks to the core of what made America great.
and of course hanging folks in the town square....;-)
ReplyDeleteI haven't been to the beasement, BillB, but I'll check it out.
ReplyDeleteIt's certainly a good one, Brighid!
ReplyDeleteThe body parts issue is especially heinous, LL. At some point there will be justice and I wouldn't want to be one of the Lamborghini "doctors"...
ReplyDeleteHang 'em high, Lukeya!
ReplyDeleteBut seriously, I think the last public hanging in these parts was in the '80s.
ReplyDeleteThat would be the 1880s.
Didn't Texas have a portable Electric Chair? Or was that Louisiana?
