Lake Dallas Retreat

Every year the clergy of the Diocese of Fort Worth go on retreat. It's a silent affair, which I like, though there's plenty of opportunity to "frat" with your friends after Compline and I like that too.

Bishop Sutton's our retreat conductor this time around and he's given an excellent series of addresses on the "nuptial nature of the church." All good stuff and it's good to learn something, which isn't always a given on a retreat.

With a view towards learning, I've brought along a few history books. How many worlds have there been before our own? I guess I'll find out when I reach my intended goal of being an expert on ante-diluvia and the forgotten civilizations and races of prehistory.

But now it's time to go to the chapel of this Jesuit retreat house on Lake Dallas and say some prayers, as well as reflecting on the Church as Bride of Christ.

I'll review the above books later, stay tuned.

  1. I have made a study of these subjects and it will be interesting to compare notes at the fort in a week or so.

  2. I can only imagine the two of y'all having a pow-wow on this. Keep me posted on your travel dates, LL!

And it sounds like a very nice retreat, LSP. Surely there are some catfish in that lake that would love to be caught... Have fun with the clergyfolk.

  3. Travel date is pending based on the people that pay the bills. I expect to hear something definitive next week.

I feel like writing an agenda out because there is so much to discuss and so little time - but that would ruin it.

  4. There were catfish... but they took a dim view of being caught...

Looking forward to the visit, LL!

  6. Dough balls and liver prove irresistible to most catfish...but sometimes the barometer is your enemy. Fish are very sensitive to that and to phases of the moon that allow them to eat all night.

  7. Well dang, I go cut down a tree for a neighbor and come back to read about big plans for a meet up in Texas. I would love to just listen to that discussion...

  8. Brighid, I think you and I would have a mighty fine time playing peanut gallery to that conversation with a glass of wine in hand. :)

  9. I've had success with liver (chicken) and felt that a dough ball/peanut butter combo would've worked well. But I didn't have the time to try it out, annoyingly.
