"I know," I thought to myself, "Let's go for a shoot." And that's what I did, Tuesday being as good as any other day to load up a couple of guns in the truck and head out to the range. But don't get the wrong idea; the "range" isn't some place that you have to pay to get into. No, it's just you and the guns, out there in the country, surrounded by a tall berm at 100+ yards.
Watch Out For Snakes |
Apart from a small shooting house and some targets, that's it. More serious shooters than myself use it to zero in their rifles from time to time, but mostly (almost always), it's empty. I like that.
The Beach in Spring |
Before plinking about, I went for an armed walkabout to scout for squirrels and small game, perhaps a snake or two, but didn't see anything. However, down by a turgid pool of standing water that I call the "Beach," I saw some fresh deer tracks.
I'm hoping that this will translate into "meat in the freezer." We'll see.
If you think Honky Tonk Heroes by Waylon & Willie is bad, you are in serious error.

Love the sky in the first pic. Texas is awesome.
ReplyDeleteThe deer prospect is exciting!
It is! More venison, please.
ReplyDeleteCalifornia hunters that visit Texas often shoot longhorns, mistaking them for deer.
ReplyDeleteMan, I know. Sometimes we run across them in the field. Short shrift, my friend.
ReplyDeleteNow that Ebola is in Texas, it's time for the senior leadership of the C of E to visit that victim, anointing them personally.
ReplyDeleteLSP, you can arrange that. If anyone can, you can.
Unh hunh. Like a "pastoral visit."
ReplyDeleteI'm sure that it would be visits that would be recalled for a long time and would be faith promoting for many Anglicans.
ReplyDeleteOh yes, we call it "pastoralia."
ReplyDeleteHope you are successful in the hunt. Dad has a venison jerky recipe that is really good. It has a 10 year shelf life just in case ya miss.
ReplyDeleteNice one. I've been negligent -- should've been putting out Alfalfa etc for a while but haven't... Still, let's see how it goes.
ReplyDeleteI like a good bit of jerky, from time to time.
