ISIS Jihadis everywhere are rejoicing as the Church of England, known to many as "Old Mother Damnable," has voted to make women bishops. While ISIS laughs, the CofE is thinking that this will make them popular and relevant, as opposed to dead and tanking.

America and Canada have had great success with this winning strategy. That's why they're making law suits converts hand over fist.

So well done, CofE Now you will have women bishops because anything else is discriminatory, unjust and oppressive, in a patriarchal way. What does that make the Apostles, or Christ? Not much, obviously. But they don't care, it's not about Him anyway.

Except that it is and mark this well; go against the Holy Spirit and you will be relentlessly destroyed by the same Spirit and yet again, the turkeys vote for Christmas.

Mind how you go,

This is purely observational, and a little tentative-- I reserve the right to totally go chew on my foot later-- but here's what I think happens:
ReplyDeleteI actually have quite a few ordained female friends. They are some of my best friends - with the soundest thinking and most selfless intentions. Their education and training has a great impact on their already compassionate hearts.
But I've never felt comfortable with the roles they've assumed. I can't help but feel like they're proving something-- or perhaps, that they don't see an alternative ladder to climb. It's like they go, "Well, we've seen men advance in this noble and admirable way, so if we want to serve God similarly, that's what we should do, too." I think their aspirations are understandable and pure-hearted. I just wish there was some alternative sort of calling that could beckon to them, that seems like a good option, well-established, well-demonstrated. (Not the celibate life of a nun-- that wouldn't work for them.) I really think they just kind of default to following the path that men have worn. It's "what you do" if you want to pursue God formally, professionally.
I'm not saying it justifies the church making sweeping changes to their structure, but I think I understand the hearts of at least some of these women, and I wish there was just a better channel for what they are trying to do.
Sorry, long winded speculation.
Christ called them "whited sepulchers". I think that the term "rainbow sepulchers" makes some sense in the modern era. In Christ's time pederasts and lesbians would have simply been stoned and removed from the flesh out of hand. Today the C of E celebrates their abomination, leaving very little if any sense of propriety remaining.
ReplyDeleteDamn!
ReplyDeleteWell we will see. Nonetheless there remains one aspect of Ministry which women do not wish to involve themselves with and which they instinctively avoid.
ReplyDeleteThat is the ministry of deliverance or exorcism. For a great number of reasons that will remain a province for male priests only, because of the physical and mental demands involved with dealing with the symptoms and manifestations which arise in cases of possession.
I'd be incline to agree with you, Jenny.
ReplyDeleteRainbow Sepulchres? Have to quote you LL!
ReplyDeleteSorry, Anon...
ReplyDeleteThat's a very interesting observation, Alan. On that theme, we obviously need a powerful corps of exorcists right about now...
ReplyDeleteOut demons, Out!
Well Parson you do have an option,
ReplyDeletethe Tiber isn't that bad for swimming, we need orthodox priests like you, you and your flock would be welcome.
In the mean time God bless and pray for the idio---sorry lost souls
ISIS now has its own weird heresy regarding sex and gender roles. Google the phrase "anal jihad" . . .
ReplyDeleteTrue, Egyptian -- but I'm loyal to my bishop (Jack Iker) and missions. Still, I'd like nothing better than to "be in communion"...
ReplyDeleteI saw that, Arimathean. Odd.
ReplyDeleteWell Parson bring him along, he'd be more than welcome
ReplyDeletePlus I LOVE the idea of a priest with a lot of guns ;)
Can't have too many guns.
