Some people might think that blessing armor was somehow bad. I'm not one of them. But on an Orthodox theme...
Here's a picture of Putin who is supported by Patriarch Kirill and disliked by Pussy Riot, an all girl band of punk rockers who performed a "punk prayer" in front of the Iconostasis of Christ the Savior Cathedral, Russia's largest church.
Pussy Riot |
Pussy Riot asked for supernatural assistance against the Russian leader, thrashing their heads and shouting out "Mother of God, drive Putin away!" Kirill denounced Pussy Riot's "prayer" as a "devilish mockery" and the girl punks were arrested. This action was cheered by the far right nationalist group, Orthodox Banner Bearers, who according to HuffPo are renowned for their hatred of Madonna, attacking gay pride marches and driving a stake through a toy monkey to protest Darwinism. They claim their intention is to "fight against slander rather than to kill people."
Orthodox Banner Bearers |
Members of Pussy Riot face up to seven years in prison for hooliganism.
Holy Russia |
There are an estimated 100 million worshiping members of the Orthodox Church in Russia.

WHo remembers the scene in "Doctor Zhivago", where the Orthodox are blessing the crows enlisting in August 1814, and Alec Guinness (as Yevgraf) joins them?
ReplyDeleteOr that Putin has swapped one false creed, communism, for another convenient one?
Putin is a very nasty piece of work.
But, but, but Tingey, you're saying that the former head of the KGB isn't the reincarnation of St. Paul? (I take it you're aware of the sect)
ReplyDeleteAgree with you on Communism and obviously don't about Orthodoxy, though I think they're wrong on the the filioque. Saying that, the Russian hierarchy was more than a little complicit in the old regime...
Interesting stuff. Even in the mother country of Godless communism, belief in God could not be snuffed...
ReplyDeleteIt is interesting; they weren't able to eradicate the Church and it came back with something of a vengeance. Of course our own brand of Western secularism appears to be doing a better job than the Coms, unfortunately. Pray for the conversion of the West.
ReplyDeleteThe Truth shall prevail. The rest will come and go. It is the same here in the west. In the end the truth will prevail. How can it not

Couldn't agree with you more, danontherock.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Communism is a classic religion.
ReplyDeleteIt persecutes all the competeition.
It persecutes and has civil wars over its sects within that "faith"
It has a set of "holy books" which make false predictions and statements (classic is the revolution will naturally occur in the most developed countries!)
It relies on both moral and physical blackmail to maintain its power hold ...
There are more, but that'll do for now.
As an atheist, I take great delight in telling sellers of say "Marxism Today" or "Socialist Worker" that I don't buy religious tracts, on principle.
Watching them go off pop is very funny.
Is it just me or does Putin bear an amazing resemblance to Gollum?
ReplyDeleteHe does, Infidel. Well spotted!
ReplyDeleteI'd altogether forgotten about "Marxism Toady" -- still exists? Amazed.
ReplyDelete"Marxism Toady" - I think it's name has changed, but it's the same hymns .... and same wrong religious message.
ReplyDeleteOf course, the OTHER funny thing is the way these marxist sects have splinter groups - I passed two, about two weeks back, and referred each to the other (on my way back, having already wound them up on the way out) by referring to their "friends".
After a few seconds of violent deuniciation of the "Other" group, in each case I just said: "Ah, Judean Poeople's Front, huh?"
Needless to say, they were not amused.
It's somehow reassuring to know that they're still at it after all these years...
ReplyDeletePantychrist are a better band on that tangent and have a cooler name. NSFW but funny and much closer to the late 70s punk ethic and sound. Just because something is morally wrong doesn't mean it can't also be funny and have ramones sort of guitars. Crazy Canadian chicks.
