Hey now, listen up all ye heathen, what's the best movie? Here at the Compound the vote's unanimous. Best SciFi, Bladerunner. Easy.
Best Ancient Rome, Gladiator. Again easy. Hey, feel free to disagree, it's not like there's some kind of "rule," and OK, maybe movies are somehow opaque to you, fair play.
Whatever the case, cheers and Go. To. Church and worship God as opposed to some dam idol.

ReplyDeleteI’ve seen so few movies that I have to vote for the three I’ve seen more than once: Steve McQueen’s Bullitt, Bruce Brown’s On Any Sunday, and the masterwork by the execrable Reiner, The Princess Bride, wonderful for daughter and then grandkids.
Hey, RN, all good. Have you seen Legend, about the Krays?
DeleteBest morality movie: Lord Jim starring Peter O'Toole.
ReplyDeleteBest war movie: Lawrence of Arabia also starring O'Toole
Best Viet Nam war movie: Apocalypse Now (with reservations)

Best comedy: It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World
Hey, LSP: You wanna hear my alternate ending for Apackalips?
That was with the all-black cast, right, WWW?
DeleteWhy, no, of course not. That would be ray-cist.
DeleteOK, after Willard gives COL Kurtz 40-whacks with his Montagnard ax, he heads for the boat, but he is surrounded by the Colonel's troops who refuse to let him leave. They bow down before him and demand he take command of them to continue Kurtz's work. Willard accepts.
Cut back to the General's trailer, where the scene where Willard is dispatched repeats itself, only with another young Captain in place of Willard. The general passes the roast beef and tells the new young Captain that Willard's methods "have become unsound" after which Harrison Ford tells him to "terminate the captain's command" and the CIA guy adds, "with extreme prejudice." There's a knock at the door and Sam Bottoms (Lance) reports to the new young captain and says, "your boat is ready, sir" and Harrison Ford ushers them out.
The final scene has Willard leaning on his ax, dripping blood and whispering "the horror, the horror" before the napalm hits the compound.
That's it. Show's over. You can go now.
Yes please, Mr Wild.
DeleteLL, the mind boggles!
