Texit Time To Go?

Whether you think it's right or wrong to kill babies in the womb, it's probably a safe bet to say that most everybody thinks abortion's a surgical procedure. So, in order to make the procedure or murder safe, it makes sense to force abortion clinics to operate under regulations for "ambulatory surgical centers."

Well, sense perhaps to anyone but the Supreme Court of the United States, who've ruled along partisan lines to overturn Texas legislation that would have acted to reduce the possibility of Kermit Gosnell-style Houses of Horror occurring in the Lone Star State.

Regardless of SCOTUS' belief that abortion is a constitutional right, really, the framers of the Constitution would have thought that? what's on display here is a radical disconnect between a politicized Supreme Court and what the people of a state believe is right and true.

Nothing, per the SCOTUS majority, must stand against the sacred right of abortion, not even normal surgical center regulations. Texans, via their legislature, think otherwise and at some point there has to be a clash, or constitutional crisis.

The bottom line is this. Citizens should not obey unjust laws and, as a matter fact, people won't obey laws that they don't believe in. Any court which attempts to impose them becomes irrelevant at best, or a touchstone of anger, division and conflict at worst. With this latest ruling, it seems we're on course for the latter.

No wonder Texans are talking about leaving the Union and, in case you wondered, the Lone Star State has roughly the same GDP as Australia and more people.

Don't be an Illuminati Shill, Shoot

There's nothing wrong with collecting guns. You can stare at them, lovingly, as they sit in their racks, gleaming in the Gun Room, and that's just fine. But the end or the telos of the gun is to hit a target with a bullet, moving with explosive energy and power.

If guns aren't doing that they're not fulfilling their potential, which isn't fair on the firearm. With that in mind, I took BW, her friend T and some of the armory to Range #2.

You're Right Handed, BW

It was hot, no doubt about it, but that didn't stop us squaring up against the opposition under a fierce Texan sun that seemed to bleach everything with white light.  A Glock 21, Beretta PX4, AR 15 and a Ruger American .22 all fulfilled themselves, putting rounds down range and on target.

T Gauging The Enemy

T, who works for the Beretta Gallery in NYC, enjoyed shooting weapons that aren't generally available on the Island, and he shot well, taking to the violent and deadly .45s like a natural. He's a wing shooter on the Rainbow Hued East Coast (RHEC) and favors a classic double trigger, straight stock, side by side 20 gauge, for shooting pheasant and woodcock. I'm jealous of that gun and he's jealous of the freedom to shoot .45s and evil assault rifles.

A Target

Are we even? No, because I can save up and buy the SxS. Sorry, T. rally 'round and vote the RHEC out of power, please. In fact, send the elite millionaire socialist leaders to jail while you're at it. The world will be a safer place.

A Typical Day in Texas

BW got in some practice on the Ruger and wanted to shoot left handed, which is odd, because she's right handed. That peculiar trend was put right, I think, and accuracy improved accordingly.

Shoot over, we headed back for home and some ice cold beer. And that's what it's all about, here at the Compound.

Shoot straight,

Texas Tranquility

It was peaceful on the lake after Mass but it was also exciting, because the Bass were jumping. Excitingly tranquil, perhaps.

One of the wide-mouthed mariners surged onto my lure, a Tiny Torpedo, and I have to say, well done, Heddon, for making something that actually catches fish. So, what do you do? Set back for an aggressive hookset?

No, you do not. You follow Fishing Science and allow the fish to take the lure down into the depths as you apply steady pressure. The action of the fish and the twin trebles do the rest. Then you enjoy the fight, and this one was full of it.

Plenty of action and no shortage of the sound every fisherman loves, drag ratcheting out as a fish runs with your hook. But all too soon this one was up on the flooded ledge I was fishing from and I brought him, or was it a she, maybe a zhir?, up to the bank.

A couple of lakeside visitors were impressed by this and took some photos. They were from Fort Worth, looking to get out of the Metrosprawl and into some Texas tranquility. And who can blame them, I hope they found it.

Here's the deal. Take some time out of your busy schedule and fish. It won't do you any harm and might do you a lot of good, unless you hook yourself in the eye, or fall out of your $70k Bass Boat onto an overdraft and break your neck.

Love Texas

After Mass on Sunday, two church ladies were talking about a town notable. Some time ago, he'd gotten into the beer and decided to saddle up and charge around town. His wife called her friend, "Have you seen my husband?" and the friend replied, "Have you seen my horse?" She hadn't, then all became clear.

"Well look at this," said the friend, "Your jackass has just turned up on my horse." Apparently he liked nothing better than to ride around town. I asked a matriarch whether that was against the law, thinking to myself that I'd like nothing better than to ride around town. She looked at me, "I don't think anyone ever told him that."

Someone's written a clever article saying that Texas has become a "caricature of itself." Others might say that the Lone Star State is larger than life and twice as big, the map alone suggests it. For goodness sake, you could put a large chunk of England in the Panhandle alone. But what do I think?

A Typical Cowboy

I'd say that the spirit of the frontier isn't that far away from this state, especially when you're in the countryside; it wasn't so long ago that people rode their horses in this town.

I'm in favor of that.

Taking Care of Business

I had to go to Dallas to take care of business, which meant visiting the County Clerk. I'd forgotten what Government was like, and I won't comment.

I also wanted to see if the Levees were holding. They seemed to be, though that might change if it rains much more, and such is the War on Weather. Who knows, maybe we'll put a couple of warships on the Trinity river as an extra tier of protection against our new national threat.

In case you're wondering, it's trying to rain, here in the country. We obviously haven't been taxed enough.

Cheers,
