All Hail The Power

Two soldiers walked through the door last night and I sent them off into the wild with shotguns and an SKS. They did well, apparently, and today we went out for a shoot. First up, shotguns, a no-name O/U 12 and a CZ SxS. Two guns up on one thrower, how'd it go?

A slow start because everyone was rusty and then we moved into the zone, smoking those clays like so many F 190s over Falaise, result. Next up? An Anderson 7.62 x 39, AR platform, Sov bullets, and it failed to fire TulAmmo consistently. Perhaps a primer issue because the beast shot fine with Federal brass, nice little barker.

Tellingly, a ChiCom SKS swallowed up some nasty TulAmmo like it was going out of fashion, which is good because the cheap and dirty rounds are just that, cheap. Big fun and time to move on from Warsaw Pact tomfoolery to 7.62 NATO. After a few ranging shots we discovered the rifle was pretty much on and lined it up against Tannerite. BOOM, more of that please.

The shoot finished with my eldest's Glock 45 9 and it was pleasing to see my amateur gunsmithery worked out, the RDS didn't fly off, in fact the system performed surprisingly well in the hands of the soldiers. Me? Not bad but not up to their level, rusty you see.

And that was that, a great shoot under a clear blue Texan sky and I was genuinely impressed by the marksmanship of the young 'uns. They shoot front on, curiously and hey, the stance works. The Tannerite was cool too. More. please.

Let's Cleanse The Palate - With Guns

Non-Binary clergy are great but have a nasty aftertaste, so let's cleanse the palate... with guns. A down to earth, practical, real world solution to bad craziness. I like Glocks, but that's just me.

Just some guns

But what am I saying? I like all kinds of guns, not least lowly Ruger American rimfires and ARs, of course. But what's wrong with shotguns? Nothing whatsoever.

CZ SxS

I'm inclined towards 20s these days, shoot all day and don't bust your shoulder, but there's no rule. Is SxS better than O/U? Good question and in answer? Get both.

SKS

SKS is cool too, obviously, and you get the added benefit of a bayonet which you can use as an ice pick, handy. Then there's the Lee. What a great weapon. Silky action, accurate if set up right and beautiful Edwardian lines.

not a Lee

Speaking of which, I've got not one but two Lee project rifles on the go and we're all waiting for the go. Better get that sorted out, eh? But more on that anon. In the meanwhile, shoot straight.

Patrolling The Aposcalypse

Eschaton

One of the things about the Apocalypse is that it's searingly hot. Imagine a preheating oven and in its midst are tiny fragments  of combustible dust, super dry, ready to ignite. No kidding, Texas in mid-September is like an air bomb about to go off. Terrifying.

It didn't fortunately, but dove did explode out of the trees as I patrolled their welcome shade. A few years back I thought nothing of walking the treelines in 100+* and scaring up dove, snapshot!, and you never know, sometimes the shot would even connect. Let's see those poppers.

an old fraud

These days an armed stroll in the oven doesn't have quite the same appeal, but the excitement of wingshooting does. Message to market? Go for a walkabout with a #20, shoot some fliers, hopefully, then set up along the flight path with some mojos and have at it.

Then put those morsels of apocalyptic goodness into cream-cheese-filled jalapenos, wrap the beasts in bacon and off you go, to Valhalla and beyond. But word to the wise.

Wash Out!

My youngest son, who's visiting from Canada, wanted to go for a shoot today and who can blame him. It sounded good to me too and the plan was to load up on clays, shotgun ammo, some .45 and head out into the wilderness for fun and adventure. Then it started to rain and didn't stop, it was like Wales, maybe Aberystwyth.

But the living room was dry, fortunately, and we looked out of its windows at the watery apocalypse. "Son, this isn't shooting weather." He agreed and I nodded grimly as the varied detritus of modern life flowed past the Compound, "That's an excellent point. Let's go to Karen's and get some food."

So we hydroplaned to Karen's Authentic Mexican Food in Itasca and bought a bag of bean and brisket burritos. Then we hydroplaned back and ate those bad boys like they were going out of fashion, which they're not because they're so tasty. Good work, Karen, you did it again.

The guns got a look-in too. Sure, maybe you don't want to shoot in the deluge but you can always clean the little blasters, which is what I did. Meanwhile, boy and dog amused themselves while the rain poured down.

They say, interestingly, that enough rain falls in Texas to keep the average house in water for a year. Of course this figure might be skewed by the population boom in the Lone Star Sate as people flee Illinois, California and associated workers' paradises for our sunny southern weather.

Go For A Shoot

It's important to get the young 'uns shooting, so we loaded up the rig with guns and headed for the range. A CZ 20 SxS, an AR15, a Chicom SKS and a Ruger American .22.

First things first, try out the shotgun against the clays. Sling 'em up and shoot 'em, at least that's the theory,  the initial praxis? Pathetic. But we warmed up and got on target well enough and I have to say, I'm a total convert to 20s. Swift, easy on the shoulder and guess what, they work.

Some call them "girl guns" because they don't have the roar and weight of a 12. This misguided opinion is an error.

Next up, the SKS. Big fun to shoot and a proper little blaster; metal plates took a beating from this workmanlike tool of the revolution. Plenty of power behind that stubby little 7.62x39 round, designed in 1943.

But the AR15 seems light and nimble compared. This one made quick work of soda cans and steel plates. Its Primary Arms red dot was on, apparently, nice.

We finished up with some .22 plinking which seemed tame in comparison, but don't scoff. Rounds down range are rounds down range, and these connected against steel with great satisfaction.

Then it was time to head for home in the setting Texan sun, a good job well completed.

Cheer Up!

I apologize. This lighthearted mind blog's become a bit serious, full of letters by French Generals, photos of aging female trolls, assorted Illuminati stooges and the dupe pawn jihadi shills of the NWO. So cheer up and enjoy America's popular and glamorous First Lady looking good on deck.

And some rod and gun. Shakespeare Ugly Sticks guarding an SKS. Proper little Chicom blaster. Nice, right?

But what about this, a plush unicorn "comfort sock," which has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with the Church of England. Beautiful, isn't it.

And for good measure, a lovely Christmas tree ornament.

There, better already!

You Dirty Little Beast!

It's all very well owning enough deadly assault rifles to equip an irregular fire team in the case of an EOTW scenario or the Eschaton itself, but you do have to clean them. A clean gun is a happy gun, you see.

With that in mind, I hauled out a section of the arsenal and got to work. First things first, the lowly SKS is considerably easier to clean than the AR and its allies, by a factor of a lot. And it got me thinking, maybe piston driven beats gas impingement?

Then I got to the 7.62 BCG (bolt carrier group). It's this massive thing, dwarfing the puny, toylike 5.56 equivalent. Go figure, it's designed to deal with a larger bullet.

Still, it seemed harder to clean the same caliber FN FALs of yesteryear, which were notoriously piston. Saying that, this beast's way more compact than the old Broomsticks and you can clip things to it, like optics, lights and radar.

Point being? I'm no expert but maybe gas piston rules over gas impingement when it comes to weapons cleaning.

In related news, the FIB is blowing back a lot of hot gas in an attempt to impinge on the release of the House Intelligence Committee memo, detailing FIB corruption. Well go figure.

Let's Go For A Shoot!

"Can we go for a shoot, please?" asked an eager cadet. "Sure, it's about time. We have new weapons in the armory and it's the Feast of the Conversion of St. Paul. Let's go." Before you could say principles of marksmanship we were on our way to the range.

Would the  new guns, an Aero build .308 AR and a ChiCom SKS perform? Only one way to find out, shoot the beasts and that's what we did.

To be fair, I didn't know what kind of ammo the .308 had been zero'd in on and came with a random pack of 150 grain bullets. Would the weapon even be on paper? It was, straight out of the gate. Excellent result and that can be improved. Big fun to shoot, explosive sound and fury with the recoil of a 20 gauge.

That'll do for now

After the mighty ballistics hi-power of the .308 battle rifle, the SKS came in as a fun gun, easy to shoot and light as you like. It performed pretty much flawlessly, sending its chunky rounds down range with workmanlike, ComBloc effect.

So what's better, an SKS or a Mini 14? Good question and I hesitate to answer but I will say this. The SKS seems simpler and a bit easier to shoot.

Still, it's factory basic, thanks, Commies and doesn't have a detachable magazine, unless you mess with it. But and it's a big but for shooters on a budget, it does cost a whole lot less. Whatever, your call, both are neat. For what it's worth, I see the SKS as a ranch rifle/fun gun on a budget.

After filling up the center mass of the Green Enemy we fell back to the small shooting house and some nice and easy plinking with a Ruger American .22.

The plates met their match.

Then it was time to head back to the Compound for Mass, a good day had by all. Moral of the story? Get out in the country and shoot, it's good for mind, body and soul.
