The National Army museum does not even hold the Honourable East India Company records. Thomas Anderson was 25 in 1857. As the seated figure appears older than the standing one the seated figure is very unlikely to be Thomas Anderson. He is rather well armed for a surgeon - even in the mutiny.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3407817413258733695.post-71655527963201101632013-12-18T15:22:37.293-08:002013-12-18T15:22:37.293-08:00right -- and come to think of it, there's a ce...right -- and come to think of it, there's a certain Ottoman look to Probyn and the Hodsonites.LSPhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08120630078039958644noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3407817413258733695.post-56504598135551807692013-12-18T15:06:20.875-08:002013-12-18T15:06:20.875-08:00The archaic definition is 'female slave in a h...The archaic definition is 'female slave in a harem' but it is actually a French translation of the Turkish word for 'chambermaid'

I purposefully didn't use a contemporary term because certain words bring interesting trafficThirdhttps://thirdnews.wordpress.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3407817413258733695.post-2718162712965795862013-12-18T14:33:24.277-08:002013-12-18T14:33:24.277-08:00I'm sure the "housekeeper" was paid,...I'm sure the "housekeeper" was paid, er, handsomely, 3rd News. So it should be "Probyn VC". The two European officers in the Hodgson's Horse photo taken at the siege of Lucknow by Felix Beato, are Lt Meacham (standing) and Captain Daly (sitting). The Indian officer on the extreme left is Man Singh and the seated officer is Jai Singh. A few days after this photo was taken Daly lost his arm while leading the Regiment.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
