Inspection

There was a time and not that long ago, when it was all done by horse but now it's all about the car. That's why I drove to Gene's to get my rig tested. I like Gene's auto, they're friendly, their work's good, they're not too expensive and they have an abstract pine cone sculpture in the waiting room.

You can gaze at the bronze colored pine cone installation as you wait for your vehicle to get tested. But not for long because Gene's completes the inspection in about 3 minutes. Quick work, leaving little time for art philosophy; does the pine cone's form follow its function? Who knows, time to split.

Inspection ticket in hand, head to the courthouse and behold the majestic edifice of The Law. There it is, standing tall and we have to thank Willie Nelson for his part in restoring the place after it burned down in the '90s.

After giving our beneficent rulers $76, leave the courthouse with new registration and pay your respects at the war memorials. One for the Confederate dead and another for all the rest. In God we trust, may they rest in peace. Then have a gaze at the Chisholm Trail plaque; I'd never noticed it before and for sure, this town played its part in that history.

With images of the great cattle drives playing in my mind I drove back to the Compound, and I'll tell you this.

It's a whole lot easier to get your vehicle inspected and registered in the country than it is in the city. I file this exciting story under Country Life in Texas.

God bless,

LSP

Hill Country life is much simpler than city life.

DMV in Arizona (called the MVD there) is about 1000 times quicker than in SoCal, and everyone speaks English. In SoCal, illegal aliens are issued driver's licenses so that they can pretend to be citizens even though they're not.

That's a beautiful building and I think the "pine cone" is sort of neat.

It's definitely simpler, LL, no doubt about it. And I'm just guessing but I'll wager the standard of driving in SoCal isn't so good?

I like the courthouse too, Adrienne, and I'm not against the pine cone, just a bit puzzled at its appearance in Gene's. There it is, Art at the Auto.

The $.80 per gallon gas tax (going to $.92/gallon in November) is used as a vehicle to redistribute wealth and buy votes. Oh, some of it goes to roads...maybe. I'm an optimist.

The courthouses in Texas are beautiful, and I'm sure yours is prettier than mine, which has a Checkpoint Charlie, to ensure nobody smuggles in contraband, after an incident several years ago of a somebody sneaking a shotgun inside a box of roses to blow away a lawyer. Nevermind the woman shot by her sheriff's deputy- disgruntled husband as she walked out of the CH with a restraining order against him, a few years before that.

They are removing all the statues here because they hurt peoples' feelings. It really annoys us that so much history is being removed and erased. A kind of cultural genocide.

Glad you got through it all so painlessly!

But LL, our rulers need money!! Moar money to buy votes, sorry, maintain the roads.

Mattexian, that sounds pretty wild west...

Linda, they wouldn't dare remove that statue... or even think it.

LSP, Governor Moonbeam needs that money to help build his high-speed choo-choo train to nowhere.

Even with everything he stole from all the other revenue streams he still doesn't have enough, so under the guise of "Cars Hurt The Planet" he raised our gas tax so he could have more.

It still won't be enough, and the choo-choo will take many times longer, and be many times more expensive to try and build, but it will Save The Planet, so it must be done....
