Act of Valor

I'd hoped to write a book review this evening but ended up watching Act of Valor.

Now I want to get hyper-fit and become a SEAL Team padre. And jump out of planes and get an Eotech for the carbine.

Too old though, fortunately enough for the spec ops community...

Ride tomorrow, looking forward to that.

Being a former operator with the Teams, I can assure you that it was fun but it's a young man's game.

I know -- I'm far too ancient! Nearly went down the Reserve Chaplaincy route a few years ago, but didn't have the time. Would've enjoyed reactivating the military connection...

You could always see if the Texas State Guard needs another chaplain. I recall a benediction from our battalion padre for a deployment to South Texas for hurricane duty-- "Dear Lord, please watch over these brave men and women, and protect them from any foolish decisions for their leaders." I still grin about that. If you're around Waco, you could ask my uncle about his time as a Navy Corpsman attached to some Marines during the Bay of Pigs non-event, before he headed off to Brethren seminary (he's retired from all that now, last posting was in West).

I thought about the Guard, Mattexian, when I got to Texas, but didn't feel, in the end, that I had the time. Had an enjoyable afternoon at the HQ just outside Dallas.
